The Philosophy

Living Wisdom Schools follow the revolutionary Education for Life approach of J Donald Walters that is rooted in the philosophy of Paramhansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi.

Using the universal principles of Self-realization to prepare children for meeting life's challenges, it provides a constructive alternative to contemporary rote learning and technological competence at the expense of eternal spiritual values.

Shunning all dogma or parochial religious practice, the EFL system focuses on helping the child develop qualities that are universally valued —inner peace, love, wisdom and joy.

Based on the premise that life itself is a school of learning, Education for Life (“EFL”) is an expansive system focused on the child’s own inner joy and peace. It emphasizes experiential learning, spiritual development and practical skills for living such as concentration, self-awareness, self-discipline and compassion.

The goal of education is the same as the goal of life: to help children become, on every level—heart, mind, body and spirit—more balanced, mature, effective, harmonious, and happy. Underlying all our academic effort is the understanding that happy children make the best learners.

Children learn to work with emotions and moods, to nurture an inner life, to love the world of ideas, to ask questions and to be original thinkers.

EFL eponymously emphasizes learning that will hold good for one’s entire lifetime……..negating Einstein’s famed lament that “Education is what remains when one has forgotten everything one learned at school”!
